Follicular unit extraction is a surgical technique that moves hair from one area of the body to another.  The location from which the specialist retrieves the hair is the donor area and the new location is the recipient area. If you want to look your best, but balding areas or extreme hair loss circumvents this goal, visit us to see if a hair restoration procedure is right for you.

Follicular What?

Follicular units are groups of one to four hairs that specialist use in hair restoration procedures. The hairs, along with a muscle, nerves and blood vessels, all fit into one very tiny unit – the follicular unit. According to the National Health Institutes, each square centimeter on the average donor’s scalp has are about 65 to 85 follicular units.

The Extraction

At the Puig Hair Restoration Center, we are committed to providing you with the latest and most innovative techniques in hair restoration. We  make use of follicular unit extractions because the technique enables us to remove follicular units individually.  This means we don’t need to harvest a strip from the donor scalp.  We excise the follicular units one at a time using experience and a steady hand. This method significantly reduces healing time. Often, the area heals in just a few days

Scaring

The FUE technique also reduces scaring. When specialists chose the single-strip technique, linear scaring often results. With an experienced hand, the scarring is very fine. If the strips the specialist harvests are too wide,  the scarring becomes more pronounced. Patients often chose to remain balding rather than experience this ineffective solution.

When To Choose FUE

If you’re considering a hair transplant in Houston, stop in to see us. We’ll help you decide if a follicular unit extraction is right for you.  For example, if even the slightest sign of scarring poses an issue, the FUE technique might be your best option. FUE is also a good option if your hair loss is minimal.  And, it’s a good option for areas on the face such as the eyebrows, eyelashes and mustaches. If  pain or scarring scares you, or if you need to return to work soon after the procedure,  the FUE technique is a good choice.

Is FUE for You?

Though we’re happy to see you, a few hairs in your brush or comb isn’t enough of a reason to undergo a hair restoration procedure. However, you might want to come see us if have extreme hair loss, including male-patterned baldness. You might be a good candidate for FUE if you also have hair growing in other donor areas. Set realistic expectations and have a thorough understanding of the procedure.  Our consolations at the  Puig Hair Restoration Center will help you decide if follicular unit extraction is right for you.
