GraftCyte® – Copper Peptide Technology
Copper is an element essential to a number of physiologic processes in the human body, yet has not enjoyed the same degree of consumer understanding as iron and zinc. The presence of copper in living tissues has been known for more than 200 years. Early medicinal applications of copper typically involved treatment of painful joints and muscles using copper bracelets or copper-containing ointments. Scientific studies have clearly defined a role for copper in the regulation of growth, development, and function of the human body.
Less than 1 mg of copper is available in the typical daily American diet. Through a complicated series of exchanges, copper finds its way into the blood system, bound primarily to ceruloplasmin. Copper is utilized by essentially every cell, resulting in the intracellular formation of copper-dependent enzymes – including cytochrome c oxidase (energy production) and superoxide dismutase (antioxidation). Copper is also essential for other enzymes including lysyl oxidase (crosslinking of elastin and collagen) and dopamine beta hydroxylase (catecholamine formation).
In the 1970’s, scientists isolated a sequence of amino acids (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine; GHK) in human serum that bound copper and used that initial piece of information to build a peptide copper-based technology with implications in anti-aging and tissue repair processes. The use of this product has been shown to accelerate cell division, assisting in wound healing, collagen formation, and accelerated hair growth. Hair Transplant patients who use the Graftcyte Postoperative kit experience less post operative discomfort, accelerated wound healing, and about 25-30% experience accelerated hair growth of their hair transplanted follicles.

Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP)
Adenosine Tri-Phosphate is (ATP) the fuel that provides energy to all living cells. It is a critical source of energy for all the intracellular processes that produce life. It is manufactured from glucose in every cell through a process call the Kreb’s Cycle. For every molecule of glucose metabolized 38 molecules of ATP are formed.
Unfortunately the Kreb’s Cycle requires oxygen to function, so if a tissue is without oxygen, as it is when removed from its blood supply, the Kreb’s Cycle shuts down and all that is left is the pyruvate reaction that only produces 2 molecules of ATP for every molecule of glucose metabolized. Worse yet, the pyruvate reaction also yields one molecule of lactatic acid, which is very toxic to the intracellular metabolism and cell membranes.
Just a few years ago, Dr. William Ehringer of Energy Delivery Solutions found a way to store ATP in a liposomal solution that can be sprayed on the skin and penetrates into the tissues, providing tissues in a low oxygen state with all the ATP they need.
Dr. Puig now adds ATP to all of his post operative solutions, so grafts are getting all the ATP they need during the early healing phases when they are in a low oxygen state. Although no scientific data has been collected as of yet, Dr. Puig has witnessed both accelerated wound healing and hair re-growth from the grafts when using this solution.
